Don’t be surprised if the day starts really early. Elderly people are in a vata stage of life and this means it is not unusual to wake in the wee hours of the morning and feel wide awake. This is the very time of day that is perfect for meditation or contemplation which is why many monasteries have early Morning Prayer. If you are so inclined, meditate for awhile sitting comfortably in bed. If not have an uplifting book at your bedside or some spiritual music that helps quiet the mind. Some elderly people like music best from their own spiritual tradition only. Others are more open to music from other traditions. We are lucky to have such a wonderful variety of world music available now. A music player with head phones can be a blessing. Try and rest again before morning.
