Eating light in the evening helps with better rest. Vegetable or bean soups are great choice. You may also choose cooked fruits. Raw foods tend to be harder to digest as we age. From the vegetables and fruits, choose deeply-colored produce and the whole food rather than just the juice. Dark green, orange, red and yellow ones are great. They can be hot or cold depending on the season. We are all creatures of habit so if 6pm has always been the main meal time you might want to keep up the tradition but make the portions smaller.

Remember the English saying as now is the time to walk a mile. It is now thought even more important that seniors exercise. Walk, bike or swim. Just move about before you settle for the evening. There is nothing more beautiful than watching a sunset and nothing more peaceful to settle you down. “Sun down” syndrome is real. Some older people get very active or agitated at this time so they may need more loving attention at this time.
