Shatavari: The 'Hundred Root' miracle for female health

WHAT IS SHATAVARI?

Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus) or Indian Asparagus, is a celebrated ingredient in Ayurveda for centuries. It grows in the tropical regions of India and Asia. Shatavari is an adaptogenic herb, which means it works to adapt to the needs of the body, while promoting balance. In Ayurveda, Shatavari is used to balance Pitta and Vata dosha, though it may increase Kapha if taken in excess.

Shatavari, the miracle herb with a hundred roots has been traditionally associated with boosting female health and balance during all stages of life.
The word Shatavari can be broken down to, Shat, meaning 'one hundred' and Avar, meaning 'below'. In other words, the “plant with the hundred roots”. The tuberous roots of Shatavari contain all the therapeutic benefits. In traditional folklore, Shatavari with its potent benefits is also likened as “one with a hundred husbands” or sometimes as “the curer of a hundred ailments."
